On Wednesday, the Senate approved a motion presented by the PP urging the central government to expedite the environmental resolution of the Badajoz-Espiel section in the route connecting Granada with Córdoba. However, this development only affects the province of Granada.
The Espiel-Córdoba section, which had seen no progress for nearly a decade, was reactivated in November 2024 by the government subdelegate, Ana López. Meanwhile, the Córdoba-Pinos Puente section in Granada is the last part of the future A-81 that will pass through Córdoba.
In the Senate, during the debate about the A-81, the socialist group did not present any new news. In contrast, in Granada, the Ministry of Transport has made progress with the construction of this highway. Additionally, the Atarfe-Granada section is being executed with an investment of 12.5 million.
The section connecting Badajoz with Espiel has been stagnant and without news for years. There is uncertainty about whether it will be a highway or a new road, as the design proposed by the central government points to a conventional road. The tender for drafting the preliminary project for the route between Pinos Puente and Cuesta de Velillos in Puerto Lope is expected.
The history of the conversion of the N-432 into a highway has faced obstacles, especially in Córdoba. Socialist senator José Entrena mentioned that the Pinos Puente-Cuesta de Velillos section has already reached 30% of its execution. The A-81 Platform has expressed its frustration over the government's inaction and has warned about possible mobilizations.
In response to senators from the PP, the central government pointed to the expiration of the environmental procedure in 2014 and deficiencies in the information study, which have delayed processing. The Environmental Impact Declaration (DIA) is still pending for this project.
