Junts Celebrates New Negotiation Success on Omnibus Decree

Míriam Nogueras from Junts expresses satisfaction with the renegotiated omnibus decree, emphasizing the need for social measures and suggesting the government must negotiate due to its minority status.

The spokesperson for Junts in Congress, Míriam Nogueras, expressed her satisfaction last Tuesday for what she considers a rectification by the President of the Government regarding the omnibus decree. The resolution of the negotiation led to the approval of a new text that incorporates the social measures requested by Carles Puigdemont's party. Additionally, it includes an initiative that addresses the protection of property owners and grants them greater legal security in cases of rental payment defaults, with guarantees managed by the Generalitat of Catalonia.

"No one from our group is here to support the program of the PSOE or Sumar, who govern with a minority," Nogueras emphasized, adding that she hopes the socialists have learned the negotiation formula from Junts. The Junts spokesperson pointed out that the omnibus decree is now history, giving way to a new decree with social and urgent measures demanded by Puigdemont. She stressed that Junts does not belong to any Spanish bloc, neither to the PP nor to the PSOE, specifically in the case of Catalonia, and rejected any attempt of blackmail from the traditional parties.

Regarding the non-legislative proposal (PNL) on the question of confidence, Nogueras confirmed its processing in Congress with some modifications to the original text. Junts expects the debate on this issue to take place at the end of February or March, aware that the Spanish Government lacks a majority, which entails the need to negotiate to approve royal decrees.

In the opinion of the Popular Party, the president of the Government emerges weakened from the negotiation with Junts and questions his credibility to continue in office. Regarding the new decree that replaces the omnibus, Junts highlights that it has succeeded in including fundamental provisions for social protection and the security of property owners in Catalonia.
