The Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón turned to her official Instagram account to issue a statement inspired by the recent words of Jacques Audiard. In it, she apologized for her previous posts and promised to remain silent so as not to affect the film in which she stars alongside Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña.
Both Jacques Audiard and Zoe Saldaña expressed their views on the controversy generated by past posts of Karla Sofía Gascón, in which she spoke disparagingly about other religions, races, and artists. The director of the film 'Emilia Pérez' described her as "self-destructive," while her co-star expressed disappointment.
Despite having offered apologies, the scandal caused Karla Sofía Gascón to be removed from Netflix promotions for 'Emilia Pérez', her absence at the Goya Awards, and the cancellation of her autobiography that was scheduled for release in March.
In a new statement on Instagram, the actress once again apologized, this time taking into account Jacques Audiard's words. She expressed: "After Jacques' interview, I decided, for the movie, for the cast, for the incredible crew that deserves it, for the beautiful adventure we lived together, to let the work speak for itself." She added: "I hope my silence helps the film be appreciated for what it is, a beautiful ode to love and difference. I sincerely apologize to everyone who was hurt along the way."
Although comments on the post were disabled, some users of the social network expressed their support for the star of 'Emilia Pérez', who has been embroiled in controversies since the film's release.
