The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, congratulated the people of Andalusia on the Day of Andalusia and celebrated the 45th anniversary of the referendum for the autonomy of the community. This February 28th marks the historic vote in which the 'yes' obtained 55% of the votes.
In a message addressed to the people of Andalusia, Sánchez emphasized the importance of this day: "Today, 28F, marks 45 years since the historic referendum in which the men and women of Andalusia achieved full autonomy to govern their future, despite the resistance."
The referendum took place after years of struggle by the people of Andalusia to be recognized as a historic community and for the right to have their own Statute of Autonomy, similar to those already held by Catalonia, the Basque Country, and Galicia. This victory in 1978 represented a key step in the history of the Andalusian community.
The celebration of this anniversary reaffirms Andalusia's commitment to its identity and its capacity for self-government. It is a day to remember the roots, culture, and history of this community, as well as to honor all the people who contributed to the achievement of Andalusian autonomy.
