The authorities of educational centers in the Comunidad Valenciana have taken measures in response to the current emergency level due to extreme weather conditions. In general, external practices have been suspended, and staff who can work remotely have been urged to do so in telework mode.
The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló (UJI) have decided to maintain online teaching activities. In the case of UJI, in-person activities have been suspended, including assessment tests and external academic practices, as well as outdoor activities on campus. Planned online teaching activities will continue, without the possibility of switching to in-person teaching.
An extraordinary leave has been established for staff who need to stay home for safety reasons, such as those caring for minors with suspended classes. The University of Alicante (UA) has suspended all teaching activities at its Alcoy campus and advises students and staff not to travel to the San Vicente del Raspeig Campus. Scheduled medical appointments have been suspended, except for oncology, dialysis, and surgeries requiring hospitalization.
Various municipalities in the province of Alicante have closed parks, suspended school and outdoor activities, and recommended that the population exercise caution due to heavy rain and winds. People are asked to avoid travel and, where possible, work remotely. The Local Police have taken closure measures in flood-risk areas, and recommendations have been issued to prevent accidents.
The municipalities of Benidorm and Torrevieja have closed cemeteries and urban parks in anticipation of heavy rains and winds. In Alicante, a preventive device has been activated, and swimming on the beaches has been banned. The universities have suspended in-person activities and have switched to online mode for the duration of the emergency.
