Massive Protest in Valencia Demands Resignation

Thousands gathered in Valencia to demand the resignation of President Carlos Mazón following disastrous flood management, criticizing government negligence and calling for justice for victims.

Dolores Ruiz, with a photo of her husband and her two children who died in the flood, expressed that "they have left me dead while alive." In a new demonstration in Valencia, approximately 25,000 people gathered demanding the resignation of the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, and the regional government for their "negligence" in managing the disaster that claimed 224 lives, left three missing, and caused multimillion-dollar damages in the province.

The protest, the fourth since the storm on October 29, was marked by rain and banners with slogans such as "The president, to Picassent", "Mazón, back to the song" or "Some feasting while I have no dining room." Aitana Martínez, present at the demonstration, demanded "justice and accountability".

Families of the victims and prominent members of the PSPV-PSOE also took part in the march, temporarily leaving their regional congress. The demonstration, led by the Nova Muixeranga of Algemesí, set off from the Town Hall square towards the Virgin square, near the Palau de la Generalitat.

"Reconstruction cannot be done with lies and with backs turned to the affected people," the organizers stated while reading the manifesto, denouncing the lack of housing for the affected and the need for authorities to take responsibility. The mobilization concluded with a minute of silence and the sound of the Civil Protection alarm.

The Local Police reported that 7,000 people participated in the demonstration, a figure lower than previous calls. During the protest, criticisms were raised regarding the delays in aid to the cultural sector, chaos in healthcare and public transport, neglect of damaged educational centers, construction in flood-prone areas despite the danger, and the lack of transparency from institutions.
