Emergency Response to DANA in Valencia

The president of the Generalitat Valenciana has requested military assistance for logistic support in Valencia affected by DANA. The Government ensures all necessary resources will be provided.

The president of the Valencia Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has requested the incorporation of the Army to reinforce logistical and distribution efforts for aid to municipalities affected by the DANA in the province of Valencia. The Military Emergency Unit will join these tasks starting this Friday morning.

Mazón has also announced that the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, will be included in the 112 CECOPI team to improve operational coordination in the area. For his part, the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, has specified that the Ministry of Defense will send 500 more UME personnel to the Valencian Community, thus totaling 1,200 personnel to assist with the consequences of the DANA.

On another front, the Valencia Prosecutor’s Office is requesting preventive detention for those arrested for the thefts occurring in areas affected by the storm. The Instruction Court number 3 of Torrent has ordered provisional detention for four men accused of looting shops in Aldaia during the night of Tuesday, while the DANA was battering the region and causing havoc.

According to the investigation, the detainees were caught by the Civil Guard with various items they had apparently stolen from local businesses. The judge has charged the detainees with an aggravated offense of robbery with force in a business open to the public, taking advantage of the emergency situation caused by the DANA.

In summary, the central government commits to providing all necessary resources to assist the Valencian Community and confront the devastating consequences of the DANA, while strengthening military presence in the area and taking measures to combat looting amid the crisis.
