Recently, a leak has been reported that puts the privacy of millions of Instagram users at risk. This incident highlights the vulnerability posed by the mass collection of data on social networks and underscores the importance of strengthening protective measures against these practices and of users taking additional precautions.
Among the compromised data are usernames, full names, personal email addresses, biography information, follower and following counts, as well as geographical locations of users. The information was announced on a deep web forum and is claimed to contain both public and private details of 528 million Instagram accounts.
The alleged attacker, who goes by GOD or YoursData, has recently updated the database with 528 million accounts and is offering to sell this data for $5,000. Additionally, there has been mention of the possibility to negotiate geographical segments for those interested in acquiring information about users from specific countries.
To reduce the risk of scams, the transaction is offered through a payment intermediary service. This leak raises serious concerns about user privacy and the risks they are exposed to, such as potential phishing campaigns, identity theft, and other tailored attacks, given the level of detail in the compromised data.
