Jesus told his disciples that "it will not be said, ‘Here it is’ or ‘There it is,’ because the Kingdom of God is already among you." And he warned them that there would come a time when they would wish to see the presence of the Son of Man, but they would not be able to do so, urging them not to be deceived by false news about his arrival.
In Jesus' words, the Kingdom of God would not manifest in a spectacular manner. He explained that the coming of the Son of Man would be like the brightness of lightning that shines from one end of the sky to the other, without warning. Before this awaited event, Jesus indicated that he would have to suffer greatly and be rejected by the men of his generation.
In a passage from the Gospel of Luke, the conversation between Jesus and the Pharisees is recounted, who asked him when the Kingdom of God would come. Jesus responded enigmatically, making it clear that its advent would not be something spectacular but already present among them in a subtle and profound way.
